LIBQUAL+™ is a survey developed by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL). The purpose of the survey is to provide libraries with a standardized, effective method to measure the quality of library services based on the perceptions of faculty, students, and staff.
The goals of LibQUAL+™ are to:
Foster a culture of excellence in providing library service
Help libraries better understand user perceptions of library service quality
Collect and interpret library user feedback systematically over time
Provide libraries with comparable assessment information from peer institutions
Identify best practices in library service
Enhance library staff members' analytical skills for interpreting and acting on data
The survey rates participants' responses to questions on three service dimensions; affect of library services, information control and access, and the library as place. For each dimension there are several questions and for each question the participant is asked to rate the minimum level of service they find acceptable, the perceived level of service they are receiving, and finally their desired level of service.
