Training

You must complete approximately 10 hours of paid training time before you can start to work in Circulation. There will also be some additional training that will occur during the first few weeks of classes. This is a big commitment on both our parts so please be sure you want the job before you take it.

Length of position and weekend shifts

The job runs all semester, including exam period. Due to the large amount of time we spend training you, we strongly encourage you to work more than one semester. We also ask that everyone on the student staff work at least one weekday shift and one weekend shift in order to "share the burden" equally. Shifts are generally 2-4 hours long.

Scheduling

We schedule work shifts around your classes. We try to schedule you for shifts at times you prefer, but reserve the right to schedule you for times you are needed. You will be assigned to work the same shifts each week of the semester, including exam period.

Semester breaks and future semesters

There are breaks during the year when you have the option but are not required to work. These are: Thanksgiving break, Winter break, Spring break, and Summer break. There is an initial probationary period of one semester, at the end of which you are evaluated. If you pass probation and continue to do well, you can continue working here as long as you are a student.

Sub system

You are responsible for your work shifts for the entire semester, but there may be times that you will have a conflict such as wanting to go home for a weekend. If you know ahead of time that you would like to miss a shift, you can arrange to have another student take your shift for that week. If you can't find anyone to take the shift, it is still your responsibility to work it.
