College Library is an undergraduate library which emphasizes service in the area of basic research. The CMC (Computer & Media Center) is the area of the library that houses UW's largest InfoLab and circulates laptop comuters, items that can be used with computers, and computer training materials. CMC Assistants check computer materials out to users, provide directional/informational assistance as well as a high level of assistance with computer-related problems, and refer users with unresolved problems in appropriate directions.
Pay Rate
CMC Assistants start at $8 per hour. Most employees usually advance quickly to a pay rate of $8.65/hr.
Training
CMC Assistants are given two days of intense training on lab hardware, software and policies. This training is mandatory and occurs the two working days before the semester begins. Applicants who cannot meet this training schedule cannot be hired.
Length of Position
CMC Assistants are hired on a semester by semester basis. CMC Assistants who meet lab standards are invited back for additional semesters.
Demands of the Job
The lab is a busy place to work. Many times, lines of people are waiting for assistance. Patience, problem-solving and strong communication skills are essential for this position. You may have time for homework, but you should not count on this.

Semester Breaks
There are breaks during the year when you have the option to work or take vacation. These periods are: Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, Spring Break, and Summer Break. Separate schedules are made for these periods.
