Databases

ACT Discover Career -- American College Testing -- Discover is an extensive program covering all aspects of career decision-making and planning. It is designed to assist in systematically identifying interests, skills, work-related values, personal potential, and educational and career options.

[Note: ACT Discover Career is available in limited form through UW-Madison Electronic Library workstations. Fully functional version available through the Cross-College Advising Service.]

Campus Resources

WISCareers -- Links between 800 programs of study and related occupations are found in the Education section of this site. This site is provided by the UW-Madison School of Education Center on Education and Work.

Counseling and Consultation Services -- 905 University Avenue, Suite 401, (262-1744) -- offers comprehensive career counseling services, including offering the following self-assessment tests: Strong Interest Inventory, Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Campbell Interest and Skill Survey, and Self-Directed Search.

Cross-College Advising Service -- 1155 Observatory Drive, Ingraham Hall, Room 10, (265-5460) -- Available to all students, but primarily aimed at undecided students, or those who are exploring educational and career options. Features an Exploration Center which offers workshops and computerized assessment tools such as ACT DISCOVER, Career Visions, and The Preference Inventory.

Career Resource Center -- Adult Career and Educational Counseling Center, 905 University Avenue, room 211 (263-6960) -- Open to the public, free of charge and on a drop-in basis, the CRC guides people in a self-directed exploration of career and educational opportunities.

Career Resources -- Wisconsin Alumni Association, 650 N. Lake Street (265-9074) -- Career exploration and networking programs for students and alumni, including Badger Career Network, a program that matches students with alumni volunteers for information and advice about career options and/or geographic relocation. Requires membership in the Wisconsin Future Alumni Association.

HELP On-line -- University of Wisconsin System -- The Higher Education Location Program is an on-line resource for student advising and academic information. The Careers section provides information on choosing a major and career planning.

Undergraduate Advising Toolkit -- Council on Academic Advising -- The toolkit is a collection of academic and career advising information for UW-Madison advisers and students. It brings information from across campus into one web presentation.

Internet Sites

Major Resource Kits -- University of Delaware Career Services Center -- This site links academic majors to career alternatives by providing information on career paths and sample job titles.

Job Web -- Career Offices section links to university career offices throughout the United States.

Major to Career Converter -- Monster.com -- Suggests career alternatives for particular college majors and searches for job openings based on job title, location, and field.

Academic Advising Resources on the Internet -- National Academic Advising Association -- An extensive collection of sites covering virtually every aspect of selecting a college major and preparing for a career.
