Campus Resources

LEXIS/NEXIS -- contains the full text articles from newspapers and business magazines. At LEXIS/NEXIS, choose the "Business":

• "Company Financial Information" gives a current profile of the company and the annual and quarterly reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
• "Business News" gives current information about the company from newspapers, journals, newsletters, wire services, and broadcast transcripts.

ABI/Inform -- indexes and abstracts articles from over 1300 scholarly and trade business periodicals with the full-text articles from over 600 journals. Popular journals such as Forbes, Fortune, and Business Week are also included. Emphasis is on company case histories, competitive intelligence, new product development and business decision making.

• Business & Industry - indexes 900 trade journals.

ProQuest Newspapers -- contains full-text articles from 16Wisconsin papers (many have only selected articles), 27 national papers (most have full coverage), and one international paper, The Guardian.

Thomson Research -- offers comprehensive financial profiles for more than 4,500 major companies in 25 countries, including the U.S.

Business Databases in the Business Library

Compact Disclosure -- is a database of information extracted from annual reports* and 10Ks* of over 10,000 publicly traded companies. You can search for information on an individual company, by type of business, by geographic location or for companies which meet certain financial criteria.

Laserdisclosure -- contains the full-text of the 10-Ks*, Annual Reports to Shareholders* and other documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for more than 1,000 companies listed on the New York Stock exchange, the American Stock Exchange and NASDAQ.

*Annual Reports are prepared for stockholders. They provide names of the officers, background and financial data, and information about future projects or directions.

*10Ks are reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission 90 days after the close of each fiscal year by companies that offer stock for sale to the public. 10Ks include the names of the officers, the principal products and services of the company, and audited financial statements.

Researching Companies Online -- this business research tutorial presents step-by-step instructions for finding free company and industry information on the World Wide Web.

Industry Research Desk -- from Polson Enterprises -- provides an extensive guide and links to internet sites for researching industries and specific companies.

JobStar Researching Companies -- links to useful sites for investigating industries and companies.

Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) -- EDGAR Database of Corporate Information -- gives annual report information that companies are required by law to file with the SEC.

Hoover's Online -- gives profiles of companies with links to their home pages.

Business Wire -- has information on 600 firms in it's Company News section
